One World Week HungryForOneWorld

16 to 24 October 2009

Skipton

One World Week is a development education charity that was founded in 1978. The aim of the charity is to help others understand more about global issues that affect us all and encourage positive action. The theme for this year’s One World Week is Hungry for One World and is about bringing people together from diverse cultures or faiths to explore how we can tackle some of the needs in our local communities and global community so ‘Hungry for what?’ seemed to be a good title for this year’s competition. Skipton Rotary Club have agreed to sponsor the competition by providing prices in three age categories and if there are sufficient entries, a contribution to the publication of a booklet of winning entries.

In Skipton lots of events are planned, including a Big Sing with the Sheeptown Songsters in the Drama Studio at Skipton Girls’ High School on Friday 16 October, a Fairtrade lunch in St Andrew’s Church Hall on Wednesday 21 October and a Salam UK concert in the Town Hall on Thursday 22 October. There will also be a day’s workshop on Conflict Resolution on Saturday 17 October, a screening of ‘The Age of Stupid’, a film documentary on climate change and lots more.

More details will be added as they become available including a programme of the week’s events. For more information contact Liz on 01756 790737 or email liz@cravendec.org.uk
