Courses Craven DEC offers support to teachers in their teaching of the Global Dimension. Although all courses are FREE thanks to funding from the Yorkshire and Humber Global Schools Association we do charge a non-returnable registration fee of £25. Fairtrade Schools Exchange 21 October 2011 1.300pm to 3.30pm Ermysteds Grammar School NOT TO BE MISSED A free event for all Craven and Nidderdale schools and any other schools with Fairtrade School status, working towards it or thinking about it, who are prepared to travel to Skipton on a Friday afternoon to network, get resources, support and inspiration, share plans, ideas and experiences. Julian Smith, MP and assistant to Andrew Mitchell, the Secretary of State for the Department for International Development, will be opening the event and speaking about the importance of Fair Trade and presenting certificates to schools that have either renewed or gained Fairtrade status this year. There will be interactive workshops for pupils and a chance to speak to and buy from Fairtrade retailers. Betty Pedley was the children’s adviser for the Diocese of Wakefield until she retired and as well as sharing her wonderfully creative ideas she will bring all you need to make the things she demonstrates. Some will be free and others will be priced very reasonably – cheaper than from YPO! Activities are suitable for use in schools, Sunday schools, youth groups. You will hear examples of sustainable food activities in other schools and this will be a fantastic opportunity to link up with schools in your local area that are also working towards the FFLP Bronze Award. If your school is already involved in Eco Schools, the Food for Life Partnership can compliment this work.
